چکیده

CONTACTS Many patients in this sample don’t achieve HbA1c-therapy-goals and many don’t test their blood glucose. Less than 1 in 5 patients performs the recommended test frequency. In IIT SMBG is needed to support insulin dose adjustments: only 1 in 50 tests enough. In CT patients the differences in HbA1c between testers and non-testers are largest. Lacking SMBG benefit in IIT treated patients might indicate the insufficiency of current testing. The new guideline might help to close these gaps. Further research is needed to monitor benefits resulting from the implementation of the Indian guideline on glucose monitoring in diabetes therapy.

Benefits and limitations of self-monitoring of blood glucose.

Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) provides significant benefits to patients with diabetes and their healthcare providers. SMBG is increasingly recognized as an integral part of intensive therapy for all forms of diabetes. This article discusses the clinical utility of SMBG in type 1 (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and looks at the relationship between SMBG and improved overall glycemic ...

Self-glucose monitoring and glycaemic control at a tertiary care university hospital, Karachi, Pakistan.

OBJECTIVE To explore the association between Self Monitoring of Blood Glucose (SMBG) levels and improved glycemic control (HbA1c level) among type 2 diabetic patients, receiving oral hypoglycaemic agents and insulin, and to ascertain the factors influencing SMBG. METHOD Using Comparative cross sectional study design five hundred Type 2 diabetes patients through convenient sampling between 30-...

Usage of glucometer is associated with improved glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in Malaysian public primary care clinics: an open-label, randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) has been underutilised. We conducted an open-label, randomised controlled trial to assess the feasibility of introducing SMBG in primary care clinics in Malaysia. METHODS This was an open-label, randomised controlled trial conducted in five public primary care clinics in Malaysia. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (age range 35-65 year...

The efficacy of self-monitoring of blood glucose in the management of patients with type 2 diabetes treated with a gliclazide modified release-based regimen. A multicentre, randomized, parallel-group, 6-month evaluation (DINAMIC 1 study).

AIM To determine if therapeutic management programmes for type 2 diabetes that include self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) result in greater reductions in glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) compared with programmes without SMBG in non-insulin requiring patients. METHODS Multicentre, randomized, parallel-group trial. A total of 610 patients were randomized to SMBG or non-SMBG groups. Patients in...

Self-monitoring of blood glucose in noninsulin-treated patients with type 2 diabetes: a never ending story?

Recommendations for self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) in the global guidelines for the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) summarize our current knowledge and evidence from studies.1 In standard care, the global IDF guidelines recommend SMBG for all newly diagnosed people with type 2 diabetes. In both standard and comprehensive care, t...
